My artistic practise is based within the photographic medium, by means
of still images (analogue and digital), digital video, web as well as
exploring other media and collaborative practises. A lot of my work
originates in my interest to explore the photographic encounter, the
photographic gaze and relations / communication between the
photographer and the photographed. Several of my projects are
completely dependent on participation and interest from other people
that are often strangers to me when I contact them regarding my
project. In other pieces, the other party remains oblivious to their
participation.
In my more recent work, I have projected the notion
of this relation also onto other photographic subjects like the
landscape and combining it with my interest in our perception of place
particularly through experiencing a place as a result of a preconceived
quotation and the centrality of the sight in front of other senses in
such experiences.
One reason for choosing to travel to one place
over another is the desire to gaze upon intact natural environment
unspoilt by modern intervention. Visual consumption devours the
environment so the tourist seeks to gaze upon undamaged places before
they become gazed upon by the masses (tourists).
